Ashwagandha: evidence, extracts and who should avoid it
Ashwagandha is not a general-purpose stress, sleep, testosterone or performance treatment. NCCIH's evidence and safety review says some preparations may help stress or insomnia, while studies are small and heterogeneous and long-term safety is uncertain. Rare liver injury has been reported, and the herb should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding and used cautiously with thyroid, immune, blood-pressure, diabetes, sedative and seizure medicines.
